REVIEWS

Mike Fischer, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

"As was true last year, this year's plays - there are eight, presented over two hours and split evenly by an intermission - focus on our frequently thwarted efforts to forge connections with those around us.

The ensemble introduces this theme in the first play - and first-ever Rep Lab musical: Carl Kissin's "Alone World," which explores how technology has left us more isolated than ever, even as we assiduously tally our growing number of online friends and followers.

Directed by Leda Hoffmann, "Alone World" uses all 13 Rep acting interns, with 11 of them forming a balletic chorus that comments on the halting courtship between Jack (Teddy Spencer) and Edie (a consistently impressive, vocally gifted Bri Sudia).

Being human, Kissin suggests, requires learning to unplug - and remembering that the electric charge produced through actual physical contact provides a much greater jolt than any online hookup."
